Strange’s has a position opening for a full time Retail Nursery Manager at the Short Pump Garden Center.

The essential candidate has proven ability to lead and manage small teams. Candidates must have experience in the green industry, or equivalent education with management experience. Buying experience preferred.

The Nursery Manager is responsible for the development and performance of all Nursery department operations including purchasing, sales, holiday transitions, training, and quality control.

Scheduling : 40-45 hours a week on average (mandatory overtime during peak seasons)

Job Responsibilities

• Build and maintain seasonal department plans
• Supervise the watering, growing, maintenance ,and organization of all landscape and perennial plant inventory
• Organize employee training within the nursery department (i.e. product knowledge, customer service, and safety)
• Maintain cleanliness/safety of  water systems, temperature controls and equipment within the greenhouse
• Develop a weekly schedule for nursery team
• Oversee daily openings and closings for the department
• Track sales trends on an ongoing basis and predict sales potential based on the use of all available data
• Work closely with the department on product purchases and inventory controls
• Frequently process and update sales/COG reports
• Communicate with the department assistant and nursery lot foreman regarding quality control of incoming plant material and future product orders

Sales Manager

Strange’s is seeking a Sales Manager for the Wholesale Division at 4201 Creighton Road. The Sales Manager is responsible for the development and performance of all sales activities. The Sales Manager directs, coaches, and motivates a team of wholesale delivery drivers and order pullers.

Scheduling : 45 hours a week.

Job Responsibilities:

• Directs staffing and training of order pullers and wholesale delivery drivers
• Develops a weekly schedule for the sales staff according to their employment status
• Updates and distributes weekly inventory/availability of greenhouse plants to local vendors (i.e. landscapers, independent garden centers, etc.)
• Reviews and processes delivery tickets
• Answers phones and takes orders
• Assists in product maintenance when needed
• Occasionally delivers product to other locations or costumers
• Develops relationships with customers and identifies new ways to attract new customers

Assistant Store Manager

Location:  3313 Mechanicsville Turnpike

We’re seeking an Assistant Store Manager for the Mechanicsville turnpike location. The Assistant Store Manager is the primary administrative support to the store and reports to the Store Manager. This team member is responsible for the purchasing, receiving, and inventory of all retail and design supply product.

• Purchases fresh flowers, sales and design supplies, and retail giftware
• Acts as a keyholder for the store
• Frequently communicates with vendors/suppliers
• Acts as a role model in placing sales orders and is the main POC for special orders
• Coordinates and schedules team level meetings per managements guidance
• Consistently monitors inventory levels
• Spearheads department seminars and special events
• Processes all paperwork for product inventory promptly (i.e. purchase orders, claims, etc.)
• Investigates and determines what/how/why material came in incorrectly or damaged
• Processes special requests/orders for weddings and special events
• Works with the Store Manager to plan and execute Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Christmas ops
• Develops seasonal floral collections alongside the Design Team Manager
• Works with the Store Manager and team leads to ensure website is kept accurate
• Performs other related duties as assigned by department management
